Yoga is an ancient practice that enhances both body and mind, boosting strength and flexibility. While there are many types of yoga, our classes generally involve physical poses, breath control, and meditation. Practicing yoga regularly offers numerous health benefits, including reducing stress and inflammation, boosting brain function, mood, and energy levels. Research even suggests that regular yoga practice can slow aging at a cellular level by protecting your mitochondria and DNA.

Benefits of Yoga

  • Boosts your mental well-being
  • Reduces chronic inflammation
  • Increases strength and flexibility
  • Reduces stress, anxiety, depression, and inflammation
  • Enhances your mood
  • Increases energy levels
  • Aids learning and memory

Yoga & Research

Research shows that yoga offers significant health benefits. Regular practice can reduce chronic inflammation, boost mood, and improve learning and memory. Studies indicate that yoga can increase grey matter density in the hippocampus, a brain region associated with learning and memory. Yoga also helps reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, regulates the sympathetic nervous system, and lowers inflammatory markers, which together help reduce anxiety and depression.

Additionally, yoga may boost mitochondrial function, the tiny power units within our cells that provide energy. Improved mitochondrial function leads to increased energy and reduced oxidative stress and inflammation, slowing the rate of cellular aging and reducing biological age.

Ongoing research is exploring yoga’s impact on complex lifestyle diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, hypotension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, depression, cancer, and more. These disorders often share underlying mechanisms like inflammation and oxidative stress. Studies have shown that yoga can decrease inflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and improve the quality of life for individuals with these conditions.

My Kind of Yoga™

People come to yoga for various reasons, often seeking relaxation, stress reduction, and increased mobility. These are the main intentions we hold with ‘My Kind of Yoga™’ classes. As a My Kind of Yoga™ Ambassador, Kelly aims to provide inspired support and informed guidance, creating a safe and nurturing environment where participants can explore their bodies through Vinyasa-style yoga.

My Kind of Yoga™ combines dynamic and energizing Vinyasa flows with grounded and focused asanas. This mind-body class focuses on breath and movement and is suitable for all levels. It’s a challenging class, but not fast-paced, giving each student a chance to breathe and settle into each pose, helping to still the fluctuations of the mind and be present in the moment.

My Kind of Yoga™ is all about you. The intention is for everyone to be empowered to practice their kind of yoga and nurture the benefits into their daily lives. It’s not about perfect shapes and postures but about what ‘you’ can create within, making ‘your’ practice meaningful.
